Health Program Assistant

The National Partnership for Women & Families is seeking a Program Assistant to join our Health Care policy team. The successful candidate will work with National Partnership colleagues to advocate for policies to improve access to quality, affordable health care for women and families.

For more than four decades the National Partnership for Women & Families has fought for every major policy advance that has helped women and families. Today, we promote fairness in the workplace, reproductive health and rights, access to quality health care, and policies that help women and men manage the dual demands of work and family. Founded in 1971 as the Women's Legal Defense Fund, the National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization located in Washington, D.C.

Position Summary

The Program Assistant will provide both substantive and administrative support on projects across the health policy portfolio. Key responsibilities include:

  • Tracking and monitoring proposed legislation and executive branch actions, such as regulations;
  • Creating or contributing to fact sheets, blogs, and other public education materials and reports;
  • Assisting in planning and implementation of coalition policy and advocacy activities;
  • Researching new developments in health policy;
  • Representing the organization to individuals outside the organization;
  • Maintaining and updating databases, content management systems and other information systems, including listservs and website materials;
  • Maintaining team records and files; and
  • Providing general administrative support to the vice president of health policy and programs, members of the health team, and to the organization as needed.

The responsibilities of this position include approximately two-thirds policy support and one-third administrative support.

Qualifications

An ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; be highly attentive to detail; be motivated by the issues we cover and the work we do; and be extremely well organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The position requires personal initiative; the candidate must be comfortable working as part of a team.

A Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of post-college work experience is required; knowledge of or experience working with health care issues strongly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 2016 and online research required; experience with Salesforce or other database/content management systems a plus.

Benefits/Salary and How to Apply

Salary range for this position is $37,000-40,000/year depending on experience, and includes a generous benefits package.
