Equal Pay

Kentucky
State: Kentucky
Subject: Fair Pay
Bill: HB 148
Introduced in House: 01/07/14
Assigned to Labor & Industry Committee: 01/08/14
Summary:

Would amend Kentucky’s law on wage discrimination to define “equivalent jobs” as either jobs or occupations that are equal under the federal Equal Pay Act or as jobs or occupations that are dissimilar but whose requirements are equivalent based on the skill, effort, responsibility, and working conditions of the job. The bill would also amend the law to prohibit paying employees in a job dominated by one sex lower wages than employees in a job dominated by the other sex, for work on equivalent jobs. However, it would not be a violation where a wage differential is based on a bona fide seniority system, a system that measures earnings by quantity or quality of product, or a bona fide factor other than sex (which does not include varying market rates for equivalent jobs).
