Legislation in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania workers need public policies that allow them to better manage the dual demands of work and family. Family friendly workplace laws help workers maintain their economic security when they give birth, adopt, raise children or grandchildren, deal with illness, and care for parents, grandparents, spouses or partners.

Working Families by the Numbers

  • 3,113,307 Pennsylvania women are in the labor force, making up 48 percent of the state workforce.1
  • 144,768 Pennsylvanians gave birth between 2015 and 2016.2
  • In 72 percent of Pennsylvania households with children, all parents work (1,824,685 households).3
  • 239,124 Pennsylvania grandparents live with grandchildren who are under 18.4
  • 1.65 million Pennsylvanians serve as family caregivers.5
  • Just 40.9 percent of working adults in Pennsylvania are estimated to be eligible for and able to afford to take unpaid leave under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).6

Summary:

In consultation with the Department of Transportation, nonprofit transportation management associations shall broker transportation services and air pollution reduction strategies that include flextime, staggered work hours, and compressed work weeks for corporations, employees, developers, individuals, etc.

Summary:

An employer who violates Pennsylvania’s equal pay law is punishable by a fine.  If the fine is not paid, the employer is subject to imprisonment for 30-60 days. Each day a violation continues constitutes a separate offense.
