Julie Su's Legacy as a Fighter for Working Families Would Serve the Department of Labor Well

Statement of Jocelyn Frye, President, National Partnership for Women & Families

"I'm elated to add the National Partnership's support to President Biden's nomination of Julie Su for Secretary of the Department of Labor. Deputy Secretary Su is supremely qualified for this position and will bring her deep experience and proven leadership at a critical moment when securing the economic security of workers and growing our nation's economy must be top priorities. This nomination is an important step forward in ensuring that women, especially women of color – and indeed all workers – are treated fairly in the workplace, and in advancing sound, equitable labor and employment practices across all industries.

"Now, more than ever, workers in this country need champions – both in the workplace and in our government – to understand their needs and provide the support necessary for them to thrive both at home and where they work.

"Having served as Deputy Secretary of Labor for nearly two years, and in labor leadership at the state level, we believe Julie Su's talents are uniquely suited to fill this leadership role in the President's cabinet. Her track record shows that she fully understands the deep and inextricable connection between expanding opportunities for women and strengthening our economy as a whole.

"While the confirmation process takes place, we will continue our work to advocate for policies that center the needs of women, especially women of color. We urge Congress to swiftly confirm Julie Su as the next Secretary of Labor, and look forward to working alongside her and the countless other leaders who want to make progress toward an economy that works for everyone in this country."
