Erika L. Moritsugu
Vice President for Congressional Relations/Economic Justice
Erika Lizabeth Moritsugu is a vice president at the National Partnership for Women & Families, where she leads the Economic Justice team, which is committed to advancing public policies to achieve economic stability and security, particularly for women of color and other marginalized communities often excluded from the institution of work. In addition, she has recently been appointed as the Vice President of a newly formed Congressional Relations team to provide an enterprise-wide advocacy strategy across all of the Partnership’s program areas.
Prior to her work at the National Partnership, Erika managed the Government Relations, Advocacy and Community Engagement team at ADL (the Anti-Defamation League). She has had a distinguished career in politics and the federal government, with service to three Senators — as General Counsel to Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, Deputy Legislative Director to Senator Danny Akaka of Hawai’i, and in several different roles at the Democratic Policy Committee under Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, including Acting Staff Director and Policy Director — was confirmed by the Senate to serve as an Assistant Secretary at Housing and Urban Development in the Obama Administration, and directed Senate legislative affairs at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Before that, she was an international trade and immigration lawyer at Hogan and Hartson and worked at The Wexler Group, the Department of Justice, and the Honolulu Prosecutor’s office.
Erika has been active in the community, volunteering for or leading organizations focused on voting rights, civil rights, community engagement, Asian American and Pacific Islander empowerment, mentoring, Veterans, organ donation, domestic violence counseling, and disaster relief. She attended Brandeis University, the College of William and Mary, and George Washington Law School. Born in California and raised in Hawai’i, Erika lives on Capitol Hill with her husband, Brian, their two children, Vianne Leilani and Chester Likeke, and two cats, Gigi and Bruce.
