Success Stories » Pregnancy Discrimination Act

Thirty years later, it's a bitter-sweet anniversary for the Pregnancy Discrimination Act.

In 1978, the National Partnership (then the Women’s Legal Defense Fund) successfully fought for the enactment of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, which outlawed discrimination on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions.

Despite this historic legislation, pregnancy discrimination claims are actually on the rise (between 1992 and 2007). It is unfathomable that a woman should worry that her job is in jeopardy because she is pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant. The National Partnership is dedicated to increasing awareness about and fighting against pregnancy discrimination.
