Stand Up & Be Counted

A Note from Debra Ness

Debra Ness Dear Friend:

Thank you for visiting the National Partnership’s website -www.thanksFMLA.org - that celebrates our landmark policy victory for women and families - the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993!

On the 15th anniversary of this historic law - with the U.S. Department of Labor threatening to roll back its protections and with broad-based expansion efforts stalling on Capitol Hill - we launch this site to encourage the millions of workers who have taken FMLA leave to stand up and be counted.

We’re asking you to share your story. Tell the world how the Family and Medical Act helped you. Whether it meant you could take maternity or paternity leave, care for a sick child, parent or spouse, or recover from a serious illness, tell us how it affected your life.

By sharing your story, you will help build a collective voice so powerful that lawmakers will finally expand the law so more workers can take leave for more reasons, and those who can’t afford to miss a paycheck can take the leave they need.

The FMLA is the greatest family-friendly advance our nation has seen, but it was only the first step. After 15 years, it’s time to break the impasse and move forward again.

Share your story today and stay connected - you can make a difference!

Sincerely,

Debra L. Ness, President
National Partnership for Women & Families
