Stand Up & Be Counted

Let’s celebrate and expand the Family and Medical Leave Act!

This year, we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the FMLA, and we need to hear your story. We need to send a clear message to our elected leaders that the FMLA is a critical protection. We need to let them know that this relatively modest law needs to be expanded to cover more workers, and that it needs to be paid.

When the FMLA was signed into law in 1993, the country took an enormous step towards modernizing our workplaces and helping workers meet the dual demands of work and family. The law has made a world of difference for over 60 million working people who have been able to take job-protected leave to care for a baby or an ill family member or to recover from a serious illness.

But the Bush Labor Department has stopped keeping track of how many people use the FMLA, and how they are using it. And now the Department may propose regulations that make it harder for workers to access the FMLA.

So join us today. Stand up and be counted by sharing your story about the importance of the FMLA.
