April 19, 2013 — The Florida House on Wednesday unanimously approved a bill (HB 1129) that would require physicians to provide emergency care if an infant is born alive after a failed abortion, the Miami Herald reports. Providers also would have to report the incident.
The bill mirrors a federal law enacted under President George W. Bush. Twenty-eight states also have similar laws.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) said he would sign the bill, which would require Senate approval before advancing to the governor (Koff, Miami Herald, 4/17).
