Summary:
As introduced, the bill would expand Hawaii's unpaid family leave law (and bring it in line with the federal law) to provide leave for any qualifying exigencies arising out of the deployment of a worker's spouse, son, daughter or parent who is on covered active duty in the armed forces of the United States.
The House and Senate Committees amended the law by requiring certain documentation to certify the validity of the family leave request and by specifying that the use of family leave also applies to reciprocal beneficiaries. The House Committee on Finance changed its effective date to July 1, 2030 to "encourage further discussion."
