Emergency Contraception Access, Other Women's Issues on Hawaiian Legislative Agenda
February 4, 2013 — Hawaii's Women's Legislative Caucus on Thursday announced support for 17 bills on a range of women's issues, including breastfeeding in the workplace and access to emergency contraception, Pacific Business News' "PBN Biz Blog" reports. The caucus comprises 16 House members and eight senators.
One of the top priorities in the package is legislation (HB 411, SB 526) that would ensure sexual assault victims are provided with "medically and factually unbiased information about and access to emergency contraception" when receiving emergency care at hospitals.
Another measure (HB 409, SB 532) would mandate that certain employers provide female workers with "reasonable time and a clean location" to breastfeed or pump milk in private.
Other legislation (HB 406, SB 534) in the package would require employers to offer workers a minimum amount of paid leave to deal with personal or family issues ranging from family medical care to domestic violence (Blakely, "PBN Biz Blog," Pacific Business News, 1/31).
