July 24, 2012 — An Indiana woman on Friday was arrested for helping a 15-year-old obtain an abortion in Illinois without her guardians' consent, the AP/San Francisco Chronicle reports (AP/San Francisco Chronicle, 7/20).
Kacy Heath, 43, allegedly provided false identification to help the girl obtain an abortion and then paid for the procedure. Heath is charged with conspiracy to commit identity theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Heath's 21-year-old son, who was arrested in April for sexual misconduct with the minor, caused the pregnancy, according to police (Evansville Courier & Press, 7/20).
Indiana law prohibits minors from obtaining an abortion without parental consent, except in a medical emergency or with court approval. Police said the girl's parents had no knowledge of the pregnancy or abortion (Indianapolis Star, 7/20).
