N.H. Senate Advances Bill Revising Judicial Bypass Process Under Parental Notification Law
May 4, 2012 — The New Hampshire Senate on Wednesday voted 16-8 to approve a House-passed bill (HB 1723) that would modify a law requiring the notification of a parent or guardian before a minor receives abortion care, the AP/Portsmouth Herald reports. The bill now advances to Gov. John Lynch (D).
The law -- which took effect Jan. 1 after lawmakers overrode Lynch's veto -- states that a judge must issue a decision within 48 hours if a minor petitions the court to waive the parental notification requirement. The bill would change the time limit to two court business days (AP/Portsmouth Herald, 5/3).
