Mo. House Approves Bill Allowing Health Care Providers To Refuse Care for Moral, Religious Reasons
April 2, 2012 — The Missouri House on Thursday passed a measure that would allow health care providers to refuse to provide services for moral or religious reasons, the AP/Springfield News-Leader reports.
The bill would ban discrimination or punishment against health care providers who refuse to participate in procedures or medical research because of their religious or ethical beliefs. According to the News-Leader, the bill's protections could apply to abortion care, contraceptive services and embryonic stem cell research (Duplaintier, AP/Springfield News-Leader, 3/30).
