Summary:
This bill is the amended version of H. 1398/S. 930, Paid Sick Days, that passed out of the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development.
The amended bill allows a worker in a business with more than ten employees to earn one hour of paid sick or safe leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 56 hours annually. A worker in a business with six to ten employees would earn one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked , up to 40 hours annually. A worker in a business with fewer than six employees would earn up to 40 hours of unpaid leave annually. The bill does not cover seasonal workers.
The leave may be used for the worker’s own illness, medical appointment or preventive care or for those of a child, spouse, parent or parent of spouse. It may also be used to address the psychological, physical or legal effects of domestic violence.
