Summary:
Current state law sets a workday as eight hours and requires that overtime be paid for any additional work hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week, unless two-thirds of workers in a unit adopt an alternate schedule of workdays lasting up to ten hours. This bill would instead require payment of overtime only after ten hours of work in a day or more than 40 hours in a week. The bill provides for this change temporarily, until January 1, 2015.
