Pregnancy Disability Leave
State: Washington
Subject: Job-Protected Leave, Pregnancy Disability Leave
Statute/Code Cite: Wash. Admin. Code Sec. 357-31-500.
Summary:
The state pregnancy disability leave law permits women workers disabled by pregnancy
or childbirth to take leave from work during the entire period of disability. The law
applies to employers with eight or more employees and protects women workers
regardless of tenure and number of hours worked. The time a woman takes for
pregnancy or childbirth-related disability does not count against the twelve weeks of
leave she is entitled to under the FMLA or the state family leave law, so a woman covered
by those laws may typically take up to 18 weeks of leave.
