"Senate Must End Procedural Roadblocks and Act Quickly
to Confirm Liu," Women’s Leader Says
Statement of Debra L. Ness, President, National Partnership for Women & Families
WASHINGTON, DC — May 18, 2011 —
"As escalating judicial vacancies across the country threaten the ability of Americans to vindicate their rights in court, it is critical that the Senate puts an end to procedural roadblocks and acts quickly to confirm eminently qualified judicial nominees like Goodwin Liu.
Goodwin Liu, who was nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit more than a year ago, has impeccable academic and legal credentials, a mainstream judicial philosophy, and an exemplary record of integrity and fair mindedness. He is a superb nominee, and he has long deserved an up or down vote.
We urge the Senate to vote to invoke cloture and close debate on Goodwin Liu’s nomination, and then to act quickly to confirm him to serve on the court. His impressive qualifications, remarkable record, and deep and demonstrated commitment to equal opportunity would make him an outstanding addition to the federal bench."
