Women's, Health Leader Lauds Senate for Confirming Sebelius

Statement of Debra L. Ness, President, National Partnership for Women & Families

WASHINGTON, DC — April 29, 2009 — "We commend the United States Senate for looking out for the country's best interests by confirming Kathleen Sebelius as America's new Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Secretary Sebelius is highly qualified for this post.  Her record of bipartisan action, fiscal responsibility, and support for women's health all position her to be a highly effective leader.

At this time when a pandemic threatens, and we have an urgent mandate to reform our broken health care system, Kathleen Sebelius is the right person for this job.  We look forward to working with her to ensure the health and safety of the public, and to give every person access to quality, affordable health care."

The National Partnership is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy group dedicated to promoting access to quality health care, fairness in the workplace, and policies that help women and men meet the dual demands of work and family.
