Senate Vote to Debate Health Insurance Reform is “The Right Thing For the Country”

Statement of Debra L. Ness, President, National Partnership for Women & Families

WASHINGTON, DC — November 21, 2009 — “ The nation wants and needs a debate on health reform and tonight the Senate voted to give it to us. Reforming our country’s broken health care system is a high priority for women and for the whole nation, and it deserves a full debate in the Senate. We applaud the 60 Senators who voted to allow debate on this issue. It is the right thing to do for the country.

We need health insurance reform now. This is our best opportunity in decades to fix our health care system, so women and families will be able to count on quality health care. We look forward to this historic debate, and to working with Senators to pass strong legislation that solves many of the problems that plague our health care system today.”

The National Partnership for Women & Families is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy group dedicated to promoting fairness in the workplace, access to quality health care and policies that help women and men meet the dual demands of work and family.
