Ga. Republicans To Vote on 'Right to Life' Amendment in Primary
July 17, 2012 — The July 31 Republican primary ballot in Georgia includes a question on whether voters support a so-called "right to life" amendment to the state Constitution, the AP/Athens Banner-Herald reports (Haines, AP/Athens Banner-Herald, 7/14).
The question reads, "Should the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide that the paramount right to life is vested in each innocent human being from his or her earliest biological beginning without regard to age, race, sex, health, function or condition of dependency?" (Jones, Florida Times-Union, 7/14).
State Republican Party Chair Sue Everhart said the "faith-based community" pushed to include the question on the ballot. "There was no discussion whatsoever," she said, adding, "They wanted it" (AP/Athens Banner-Herald, 7/14).
