February 2014 — The National Partnership helped draft the HITECH Act of 2009, which launched critical initiatives designed to build a nationwide health information technology (IT) infrastructure.
In celebration of the historic law’s 5th anniversary, we encouraged our supporters to send a “heart” to the Obama administration, as thanks for standing strong against opponents and to recognize the progress in giving patients and families online access and tools to manage their health and health information.
Dr. Karen DeSalvo, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, contacted us to personally express her gratitude. She featured the card from our activists at a keynote presentation at a global conference with more than 37,000 health care IT professionals, clinicians, executives and vendors.
