President Obama set the record straight in his 2014 State of the Union address:
“A mother deserves a day off to care for a sick child or sick parent without running into hardship — and you know what, a father does too. It’s time to do away with workplace policies that belong in a ‘Mad Men’ episode.”
We couldn’t agree more and that’s why we’re leading the charge for a national paid sick days standard — the Healthy Families Act — and working with state and local partners from coast to coast.
The proof is in the legislation: Paid sick days laws are now in place in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Portland, Ore., New York City, Jersey City, Newark and the state of Connecticut; and there are active campaigns across the country.
Millions of people are benefiting from these common sense laws, but we won’t rest until all workers can earn paid sick days.
