National Partnership for Women & Families

National Consumer Coalition

The National Partnership leads a broad-based coalition of consumer advocacy organizations representing diverse constituencies, including older adults, women, people with disabilities, patients with specific diseases, the civil rights community, labor and more.

The coalition plays a powerful and influential role in bringing consumer perspectives to policymakers, health care providers and industry stakeholders.

For example, throughout the drafting, passage and now implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the coalition worked successfully to ensure that new models of health care delivery address the needs of patients and their families and prioritize partnerships between patients and families and clinicians.

Our work and its impact are wide-ranging. In Washington, we’ve assisted staff at federal agencies to incorporate patient and family engagement into rules and criteria for new models of care. And on the ground, we’ve helped hospitals and doctors’ offices develop partnerships with patients and families (i.e. patient and family advisory councils) so the perspectives of patients and families are used to improve care quality, lower costs, and improve clinician and patient and family experiences.

We remain committed to improving the way health care is delivered and ensuring it is coordinated, high-quality and provides the best outcomes. At the center of our advocacy — and the mutual purpose that unites us — is the need to collaborate with patients and families and the knowledge that we cannot change our health care system without them.
