Senior Manager of Donor Relations

The National Partnership for Women & Families — a preeminent women’s rights and health advocacy organization with an $8 million budget and a $18 million dollar endowment — is seeking a Senior Manager of Donor Relations to join our Development team to build and cultivate individual major gifts and institutional support related to our workplace, reproductive rights and women’s health fundraising.

Position Summary

The Senior Manager of Donor Relations reports to the Vice President for Development and plays an integral role in the Development Department. Responsible for developing and implementing all stages of individual major donor relationship management — including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship — to meet short and long-term organizational goals. This position requires a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and developing strategies to identify and engage new donors as well as upgrade existing donors.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage the Annual Campaign program — oversee message development and partner with Director of Development Operations on timelines, collateral development and implementation.
  • Work with VP for Development to craft and implement a strategic plan to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward new major donors as well as increase support from existing individual donors.
  • Oversee program improvements of major donor outreach; manage research and identification of individual major donor prospects in the pipeline.
  • Identify and develop major donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship materials in collaboration with Program, Development and Communications teams.
  • Communicate directly with donors in person and by phone/email; plan and participate in meetings with prospects and existing donors; play a lead role in soliciting and closing individual gifts; manage donor field consultants.
  • Manage development of donor collateral materials, including digital newsletters and hard copy productions.
  • Provide strategic support to volunteer fundraising bodies comprised of major donors, board members and institutional contacts, to assist in major donor fundraising for annual fundraising events.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with program and communications teams to plan and host major donor events, activities, and briefings in DC and in other select cities; identify, establish and manage new relationships with volunteer leaders in new cities.
  • Develop, manage and eventually grow a planned giving program.
  • Participate in all departmental strategic planning, including budgeting and forecasting, with specific responsibility for major donor programs.


  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of successful experience in nonprofit fundraising in the areas of individual, major gift and/or planned giving, ideally focused on women’s, health, and/or progressive public policy advocacy.
  • Strong grasp of the role of advocacy in shaping public policy; familiarity with advocacy work from the perspective of a non-profit advocacy group, think tank, foundation or similar organization a plus.
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of donors in order to develop relationships between donors and the organization; knowledge of prospect research and successful experience developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Excellent writing, oral and presentation skills; exceptional interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of developing and cultivating relationships with external stakeholders as well as with colleagues across the entire organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional projects, priorities and timelines with minimal supervision.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite computer skills; knowledge of Salesforce or other fundraising databases a plus.
  • Some travel required.

Starting compensation will range from $80-85K depending on level of experience, and includes a generous benefits package.
